How to Upgrade Gear in Lost Ark - Lost Ark Gear Upgrading & Honing Guide

The YouTuber DonTheCrown introduced where the gear comes from in Lost Ark and how to upgrade the gear effectively and correctly. There is tier 1, tier 2, and tier 3 content in the game. Tier 1 is basically the continent of Vern and Rohendel, Tier 2 is the continents of Yorn and Feiton, and in Tier 3, Punika is the only zone. To progress up the tiers, you have to get your gear leveled up enough or honed up enough to finish the quest to go to the next tier. For example, in tier 1, once you get to 600 gear score, you’ll be able to take the Yorn quest and do your storyline, and then after you’ve progressed a little bit more like 960, you get to Feiton, and then once you get to 1100, you’ll be able to go to Punika.

Gear Honing is a system in Lost Ark, through which players can upgrade their gear, then increase the item level of the weapons and armors, so you can progress through the endgame content.

Then how do you upgrade the gear in Lost Ark? Basically, your first set of gear comes from Chaos Dungeons or Shushire quest line, when you hit level 50, you can finish up whatever quest you are working on. Then you go to the Vern and do the storyline there, you will drop a set of 302 blue gear out of this Chaos Dungeon, you can level this up by doing honing in like the southeast corner of Vern, there are honing NPCs who can be found in all major hub cities, just talk to them and they’ll help you upgrade your gear.

If you go to the honing NPC, at the bottom there are two tabs, one of them is holding and the other one is transferred, and so if you click the transfer tab, you will be able to pick your new purple hat and transfer the honing of your blue hat directly onto it, saving all of your progress, you won't lose any progress, this way people keep upgrading without losing anything, and basically, just turn your +4 blue item into a +4 purple item, but it gets even better than that, because when you're making your purple and orange sets from Abyssal, you can just keep crafting them over and over again until you get the quality roll you want, so for the purple one and even the orange one, the armor quality doesn't matter that much. But for weapons the weapons scale the bonus damage depending on their quality, so you probably want to get that up pretty high.

The steps of Lost Ark gear upgrading/honing:

1. You need to hit level 50 and complete all the story quests first.

2. Head over to the map and locate the honing NPC, speak with them unlock the upgrade menu.

3. You'll find an upgrade button on the interface, check the available gear to upgrade, select the item you want to upgrade.

4. Click on the "Upgrade" button to start the honing process.

5. A meter or orb will monitor the upgrading process, click on the "Gear Honing" button once the meter reaches 100%, select the additional honing materials, you can check the upgrades to be made and the rate for success or failure.

6. After honing begins, never hone a new piece of +0 gear, transfer your existing honing over to it.

Note:

You need enough gear honing materials to upgrade your gear, the type of materials depending on which gear to upgrade and which tier you are in.

How to unlock Chaos Dungeons in Lost Ark? Chaos Dungeons is the first part of end game content, which is only unlocked once you hit level 50. Except for that, you also need to go to the continent of Vern and complete the main story quests there. You can only do two Chaos Dungeons each day.

More tips for Lost Ark gear upgrading:

The first thing when you are going to one of these sets is to go to the Abyssal, craft their symbol on the map that looks like a sword, basically it's on a green shield and you just craft a bunch of swords, and then the swords that are low quality, you dismantle them and you get exactly the materials you need back from these guys to keep crafting it, you could craft forever if you really wanted, it does cost silver, but you can just keep on rolling until you get good quality like having a 90 quality sword is a lot better than a 10 quality, at orange level, it goes up to like 15 more damage basically at a good quality like 100 quality, so that's a lot of damage that's probably more than some of your class, some of the engravings that you have on your gear, and so this is a pretty good way to get solid damage.

Another thing to note is that if you're running these Abyssal Dungeons on the side, there will be a panel that says like view more rewards or something like that, and it will have shown all the stuff that you did earn, you want to click the button, and this is going to give you the ability to spend Lost Ark gold on getting basically more loot, and you got paid gold for completing the dungeon, it's one of the rewards you get, paid more gold than the cost of the double loot is, so buy the double loot, you definitely want to do this and then you also get enough materials to make your sets as well.
