What is the best starting character for Ladder season after Diablo 2 Resurrected Patch 2.4? Electric Jaguar believes Assassin will be a good choice as it is very effective for farming keys. Keys are very tradable, especially with entire sets, as people are always looking to collect organs, either to keep for the eventual trip to Uber Tristram, or to trade again. Keys of Destruction are slightly more expensive than the other two. Nihlathak is the most lucrative since fewer players run him, fewer Keys of Destruction on the market, hence upping their price slightly. The major problem with Nihlathak is his incredibly annoying and powerful Corpse Explosion. If you want to start with other classes in Ladder, make sure to pick up some class-specific D2R Ladder items that are good for selling, such as necromancer wands and sorceress orbs.

Firstly, Assassin is one of the best characters to farm the Key of Destruction from Nihlathak, this is a Quest item that can be obtained at Halls of Vaught by defeating Nihlathak in Hell difficulty. Farming Destruction Keys is very profitable at the start of the Ladder season in Diablo 2. Destruction keys are the hardest of the three keys to farm and relatively more valuable, each Key of Destruction you find can be traded for multiple of the other two keys: Key of Terror and Key of Hate. When you have all the keys, use them to open red portals that lead to The Furnace of Pain, Matron’s Den, and Forgotten Sands, and get three items from these areas, Mephisto’s Brain, Diablo’s horn, and Baal’s eye. Once you have the three items, you can access Uber Tristam and defeat all the three bosses and then get Hellfire Torch. Once you get enough keys for three sets, you can either run Ubers yourself if you have a Smiter, or you can keep the keys and pay a Smiter to kill for you, once you have your unidentified torch, you can then trade that for 4x3 key sets, which is like getting 1 free torch for every three runs. Trading keys is one of the most effective ways to build wealth in Diablo, especially at the start of the D2R Ladder season.

For the starting class for each Ladder season, Hammerdin is also a very popular option because of his magic damage and lack of magic immune enemies in the game. It would be interesting to run an Assassin and mix things up, since using this Assassin would require you to trade keys for Diablo 2 Resurrected runes and trade unidentified torches for more key sets, there is a predictable rate of return because the odds are 1 in 12 that Nith drops a D key, and the rough valley of d keys throughout the season.

Another reason to run an Assassin for Ladder season is that Assassin gear is cheaper than some other characters like Paladin. Since everybody will be running Sorceress and Paladins, Assassin torches will be in much less demand, the Assassin can also clear every area in the game including Baal because of great damage outputs, lightning from Traps, fire from Blast, 50/50 damage from fire, and physical from your Corpse Explosion, all resistance, survivability from Fade, and movement speed from Burst of Speed. Assassin is a very viable option for accumulating wealth in this new Diablo 2 Ladder season.
