D2R No Drop Chance & Multiplayer Drop Rate Guide - How Players Count Affect Item Drop Rate in Diablo 2 Resurrected
10/31/2022 6:46:50 PM

In Diablo 2 Resurrected, do you really get better items if you have more people in the game or if you have a higher player's difficulty count? What is really going on with the NO DROP RATE on items in single and multiplayer? So that's what we are going to talk about in this D2R guide, then you will know what exactly is happening when the player's difficulty count changes, some of this might surprise you.

Multiplayer Drop Rate in Diablo 2 Resurrected

More players increase the frequency of an item being generated (dropped). There are 3 factors and 1 variable used (as follows):

  • - First, the number of players in the game

  • - Second, the number of players in your party

  • - Third, how close players in your party are (close enough to get EXP is close enough; outside of that and they might as well not be in your party, as far as drops are concerned).

The variable is called "NoDrop" in the MPQs, which is a part of the Treasure Classes. When the game runs the check to see if an item should be dropped, it compares this "NoDrop" in a formula with the 3 factors above taken into account.

What is No Drop Chance in Diablo 2 Resurrected?

There is a great post here directly on the Blizzard forum "What Player Count in Game Actually Does Drops" which gives us a semi-true explanation for the NO DROP CHANCE in Diablo 2:

NO DROP RATE is a % chance for a monster or clickable to NOT drop an item from their loot table in Diablo 2 Resurrected. The chance for this outcome decreases for every 2 additional Players (Setting or Count). (i.e. P3, P5, P7 decrease No Drop)

This is very true online because obviously, you're going to be in a game by yourself, but it's not always true online. This is kind of like perpetually, it's probably just the way that it is exactly explained but it's also not 100% accurate which we'll talk about a little bit.

No Drop Rate & Multiplayer Drop Rate Player Count

How Does Player Count Difficulty Actually Affect Item Drop Rate in Diablo 2?

Increasing PS (Player Settings) increases the chance that a monster drops an item

  • Monsters No Drop chance is calculated when the monster dies. This means that spawning a monster at P7 and then reducing the PS to P1 would increase their No Drop chance.

    - The same is true if Players leave a Multiplayer game before a Boss (i.e. The Countess) would die.

    - The number of Partied Players near you when a monster dies has a larger impact on No Drop than unpartied members in the same game. P5 settings with unpartied members are equal to 3 Partied Players in the same area.

Further Explain:

Monster No Drop Chances are calculated when it dies, so you don't need to like come into a game with 8 people have the monsters spawn then leave that's going to give you players one drops. But when the monster spawns that determines how hard or difficult the monster is,  it'll have more health. So really having that type of instance happen is actually a net negative, so you'll get a 1 player's drop rate plus you'll get a harder monster, don't do that one so.

The number of Party players near you when the monster dies has a large impact on the No Drap, then unpartied members in the same game. So players 5 settings with unpartied members is equal to players three with members in the same area and partied that is an incredibly important statement right there. So if you're online in a game and there are 8 other people in the game but nobody is partied and out there farming with you, you're not going to get the same drops as everybody in the same place at the same time obviously, then you have to fight with people to in order to get the drops but that's another story altogether.

No Drop does not affect the following monster types because they have set drops

  • Champions 51always drop 2 Potions and a large sum of Gold or an item.

  • Uniques 51 always drop 4 Potions and an item.

  • Super Uniques always drop 4 Potions and two items.

Further Explain:

This is why sometimes when people are doing Holy Grails or specifically hunting uniques, they do not run it on higher players count, only players want difficulty because Champions right here always drop two potions and a large sum of gold or item unique always drops 4 potions in an item and super unique are always drop or potion and an item as well. So that's why when people are running places like Pindleskin, Pindleskin will drop 4 potions and an item every single time, no matter players 1 difficulty or players 8 difficulty. Now If you run Pindleskin on higher difficulty counts, the monsters around them, the regular white monsters see standard monsters will then have a lower No Drop Chance meaning you can then get items like bases and runes from the monsters around Pindleskin. But if you're specifically going in maybe you're howling away all the other monsters with a barbarian and you're only killing Pindleskin, you only need to do that on players one difficulty. Or if you got that Pit Circle you're teleporting around, just howling away all the other monsters and sniping the exact unique you only need to run that on players one difficulty as well, so that's why when you see people holy grailing doing that, because no matter what the difficulty, you don't get better items, really upping the players count actually increases the number of items to drop from other monsters. So the more items that drop mean the more opportunities that the randomness of the roles could possibly land on a good number for you and then be a high Rune or a good item.

Diablo 2 Resurrected  No Drop Chance (Multiplayer Drop Rate) Calculation Formula

  • The "NoDrop" variable is the chance the game will NOT drop an item. For most instances, this chance is around 60-70% (from generic enemies; not uniques, super uniques, or bosses).

  • Steelrend

    SteelrendDefense: 232-281 (varies)(Base Defense: 62-71)
    Required Level: 70
    Required Strength: 185
    Durability: 24
    +170-210 Defense (varies)
    Sale [+200-210 Defense (varies)]
    +30-60% Enhanced Damage (varies)
    Sale [+60% Enhanced Damage]
    10% Chance of Crushing Blow
    +15-20 To Strength (varies)
    Sale [+20 To Strength]
(Only Spawns In Patch 1.10 or later)
  • With a single player in the game, the NoDrop does not get changed; the formula it goes through turns out to equal the same as what the NoDrop was originally (so while it does go through the calculation for more players, it doesn't effectively change anything).

  • With 8 players in the game, but unpartied, you effectively have a dramatically lowered NoDrop chance (meaning, there are more items dropping) down to roughly 25-45%, but since you're unpartied, it's about equal to having 4 players partied and close to each other.

  • With 8 players in the game, all partied, and all close to each other, the NoDrop chance is cut severely down to roughly 10-25% (depending on the monster).

D2R No Drop Rate on Normal Type Monsters

So this is a very great chart here to that will help you understand a ton of the No Drop Chance:

  • p1/1, p2/1 = 62.5%

  • p2/2, p3/1, p3/2, p4/1 = 38.78 %

  • p3/3, p4/2, p4/3, p5/1, p5/2, p6/1 = 24.05 %

  • p4/4, p5/3, p5/4, p6/2, p6/3, p7/1, p7/2, p8/1 = 14.29 %

  • p5/5, p6/4, p6/5, p7/3, p7/4, p8/2, p8/3 = 9.09 %

  • p6/6, p7/5, p7/6, p8/4, p8/5 = 4.76 %

  • p7/7, p8/6, p8/7 = 3.23 %

  • p8/8 = 1.64%

Note:  p(Players in Game)/(Players in area) = %nodrop

How To Read The Chart of No Drop Rate:

  • The first number is the players in the games, and the second number is the players in the area. So P 1/1 in the area or P 2/1 in the area, it doesn't matter if there is only one person in the area, one or 2 difficulty, a 62.5% chance No Item will drop when you kill a monster (So more than half the time which is quite often)

  • So if there are two people in the game and if they are partied in the same area or if there are three people in the game but there's only one person out farming by themselves, so three and two or four and one all have the same No Drop Chance. So that's why they say if you have it on players three difficulty or players 4 difficulty when you're farming you will get the same drops, that's because if you're out there farming by yourself, they will all be a 38.78% chance of No Item dropping, so the fewer items that drop off of monsters the less chance you have of getting that item you need.

  • So important to note here: if you are in a game with just two people and they are partied and they're farming by yourselves online, you got a 62% No Drap Chance on play with just one person in the game. You get one player to come in and you party up and farm together, a 38%chance of No Drop. So that's a roughly 20%  difference in numeric value there, which is like a third better chance of finding an item.

  • When people farm a solo off flying on single player, you can up the players count but there's always only one person in the area, so three people online farming together is equal to players 5 difficulty on single player. So that's when people will say that farming and magic finding on single-player and finding things is actually easier, it depends on how you look at it because if you get a couple of buddies to come in and play with you, it's just like players 5 difficulty on single player. The players 5 and 6 difficulty are the same because if you're one person by yourself, you're going to get the same drop rates.

Players 7/8 on Single Player with The Best Item Drop Rate

Why? Since No Drop decreases with every 2 PS, farming monsters on P8 is the same as P7 for drop chances. If you have people in the game and they're all partied up and farming in the same area, the no-drop chance goes down significantly every single time. So it can be beneficial to have more people in your party but you see the jump from 62% to 38% to 24% to 14%, and it starts to decrease the amount down to 1.65%.

  • Players 8 with 1 person (P8/1) and players 7 with 1 person in the game, 14% chance of No Drop that's the best possible drop rate you can get on single-player offline.

  • But if you're playing online, you can actually get significantly better drop odds by partying up and farming in the same areas. So that's why farming online you actually will find way more items or way more items do drop, but the problem is trying to get your hands on those items because people are really quick on the trigger finger.

  • So if you’re alone in Chaos Sanctuary, it makes no difference if you have 6 or 7 other instances idling in town with your farming character in-game (p8/1 = p7/1), you still are at 14.29% chance that a normal monster will drop absolutely nothing.

It's just saying that if you're online, you know no matter if you run off by yourself or you're just idling people in town or something, and you're out there farming it doesn't really make a difference to go up that one other player count, because you're going to get the same No Drop Chance.
