The cow level is a so-called Easter egg, whose story already begins in Diablo 1. In the first Diablo part, there are three cows near the city. According to legend, a portal to a cow level should open when you click on the cows in a certain order. Blizzard has confirmed that there is no cow level in Starcraft with the cheat code "There is no Cow level". However, since it was quite a sought-after topic among the community, Blizzard ultimately added a secret cow level in Diablo 2.

Requirements for Unlocking the Cow Level:

If you want to see the cow level in Diablo 2 Resurrected, you must first meet the following requirements.

Obtain folio of the city portal: Offered for sale at the dealers in the city.
Get Wirt's leg: Get from Wirt's body in Tristram.
Unlock Horadrim Dice: Unlocked during the second quest in the second act.
Defeat Baal: This is the final boss in Diablo 2 Resurrected.

How to get Wirt's leg in Diablo 2 Resurrected? During the third task, called "The Search for Cain", we open a portal to Tristram in the field of stones. In the northeast of this rather small area, Wirt's body lies on the ground. With a mouse click, quite a lot of gold and Wirt's leg lands on the ground, which we just pick up.

Why doesn't a portal to the secret cow level unlock? If you use Wirt's leg from a different level of difficulty, it won't work. However, it is easily recognizable by the red font.

How to get the Horadric cube in Diablo 2 Resurrected? We get the Horadric cube in the second act during the second quest "The Horadric Staff". We are to procure the Horadric cube, the staff of the kings and the Viper amulet. The Horadric cube can be found on the third level in the halls of the dead. The entrance to this dungeon is located in the withered hills. If you have already been to the halls, you can also teleport to the waypoint on the second level.

Cow Level & Difficulty Levels

The cow level is also a randomly generated area where we only face hell bulls and the cow king. Although there are a lot of cattle present at the cow level, these are quite easy to conquer because they are very slow and have little resistance. The monster levels look like this at the three difficulty levels:

Normal: Level 28
Nightmare: Level 64
Hell: Level 81

The cow level includes a portal to the camp of the hunters, which can usually be found in the middle of the map, as well as the house of the cow king. Don't forget to search the chests for treasures.

Cow Level Rewards

In the entire cow level, but especially at the cow king himself, they have the chance to get parts of the set leather of the cattle king as prey. This set is very strong because of the 30% increased attack speed when leveling and very popular because of the Magic Find bonus of +125%. Boots and chest armor are best to get in normal difficulty. The drop chance with the helmet in the difficulty level nightmare again higher. Since you can still enter the cow level in Diablo 2 Resurrected after completing the quest, farming the set parts has become much easier.

Cow King Quest

The Cow King can be found in an open house. As soon as we defeat the final boss, we automatically complete a secret quest. This also applies to all players who are in the game. Unlike in Diablo 2, in Diablo 2 Resurrected you can still create a portal to the cow level after completing the quest. The cow level can therefore be completed several times including the cow king kill.

The cow level is often used as a farm spot for runes, gems, jewels and spells. Note, however, that the Magic-Find bonus does not affect the drop rate of runes, but the number of players does.
