Dragonflight 10.2 Ilvl 420+ Gearing Guide - Best Ways to Gear Fast in Dragonflight Season 3

With the arrival of Dragonflight Season 3 Patch 10.2, the path to reaching an Ilvl of 420 or higher is brimming with possibilities. There is always the fastest answer which is just get into Mythic+ and keep farming Mythic+, but that is not often very viable some players for example don't even want to do Mythic+ and then others simply won't even be invited in Mythic+ because they have no rating on that character or because they have no gear on that character or a combination of both. So there are 5 ways to get gear right now in open world solo content (as now is in the 10.1.7 patch), you have the Fyrakk Assault, you have Time Rift, you have the Flightstones gear gear from Zaralek Caverns and then you have the Dreamsurge, the new event in 10.1.7. You can also gear up by using the same methods in 10.2 Season 3.

1. Flightstones Gear

If you are a fresh or a returning player without much of any of the current patch currency, that's not really going to be very helpful. But in Zaralek Caverns, there is an NPC called Spinsoa which allows you to trade your flightstones for a bind-on account 398 item level piece of gear. This piece of gear is random, it could be a trinket or a ring or a piece of armor. But at 398 item level, it is still quite high considering you will be hitting level 70 at 300 or 310 item level, so it will be quite a good help as soon as you hit max level if you are announced with flightstones available on your other characters.

2. Fyrakk Assault

You have the firework assault that can be done weekly at least getting the loot from the final boss can be done weekly and completing the assault will give you a 411 piece of gear. Killing the disciple, the disciple of Fyrakk still In the Zone can give you a 402 piece of gear. And then you also have a small chance whenever you grind the zone, whenever you're grinding the mobs, there the rare mobs there to get suffused gear, this gear can go from 350 all the way up to 382 item level and is basically grindable. There is no limit to how much of this you can loot. The downside is that it's RNG, you don't even have a choice in the matter.

3. Dreamsurge

The other weekly event reward is from the Dreamsurges, this is the weekly event which will award you with a Dreamsurge Chrysalis. This can be exchanged at the vendor for a piece of 415 item level piece of gear and it can happen once a week, you can only earn one of these things once a week.

What you can grind in the Dreamsurge is the other currency, the Dreamsurge Coalescence. This is what is droppable and lootable from every mob and every world quest available in the zone. Every world quest will give you 10 to 15 Dreamsurges, there are going to be some green orbs floating around the area that you can run over with your dragon mount, and get a lot of this currency as well as a lot over 10 whelping crests all at once. If you get all of these floating orbs around the zone, every mob you kill has a chance to give you some Dreamsurge Coalescence. And then the weekly event itself plus the rare mobs that get empowered periodically In the zone by the Dreamsurge will also give you this currency. This is amongst the better of the currencies for catch-up gear, because the reward is bind on account, which means you can do this on your other characters and still make use of this currency. And it's not RNG, you don't open a random crate without knowing what can be in it you get to pick and choose the armor slot that you want from this reward. So if you have opened a bunch of random crates, if you have looted a bunch of random RNG pieces from the Fyrakk Assaults and you're still missing the shoulders, the pants and the boots. You can go into the Dreamsurge, farm this currency and then buy those 3 specific item slots you're still missing.

4. Time Rift

The third piece of content with a weekly reward is the Time Rift. The weekly reward is going to be the Dilated Time Capsule. There are some voices in the corridors that this might still drop even after you loot it once, but in general, it's very likely you will only get one time capsule, the first time of the week you will be doing the time rift. This time capsule much like the weekly reward from the Dreamsurges can be traded in for one piece of 402 gear.

Now there is also a grindable currency in the time list but not nearly as powerful and these are the Paracausal Flakes. The reason why it's not nearly as powerful is because while you can grind this even when you are doing the Time Rifts and earning these flakes, you can only trade them in for trinkets. So 402 item level trinkets that you can get from the Time Rift.

So just by doing these weekly events and a few hours of grinding these currencies, you can get yourself different pieces of 415 item level gear. You can get two different 402 item level trinkets and then at least 4 to 5 402 item level pieces from the Dreamsurge Coalescence currency vendor. And this can be done quite quickly without the help of any main characters sending you currency, sending you bind on account, gear. If you have a main or other characters with that currency, then this process can be even faster to get yourself into 400+ item level gear.

5. Spark of Shadowflame

The last piece of gear that is going to be very useful for out is something that is nowadays not really very useful anymore, but it's still quite handy for low level characters, which is the Spark of Shadowflame. Nowadays, this bit of an item is almost exclusively used together with an aspect crest to craft a 447 item level piece of gear. The problem of is that this will require your new character to grind a whole bunch of Mythic+ keys or raid bosses to get the crests you need to use this item. So what you can do in the meantime is use this item to craft a base item level piece of gear, an item that does not require crests to be crafted. So the item level will still be much lower will be 424, but it is still very high compared to your newly leveled low geared character. These are crafted items and they can be recrafted, so even if you craft 424 piece of gear, you can then later on recraft it with a new crest item put in and increase the item level, so you're not you're not wasting these crafts by crafting a lower item level piece. Also you can get these very quickly because now we have ketchup mechanisms to get back the Splintered Sparks of Shadowflames, these used to be earned once a week from the Zaralek Cavern weekly. You can still earn them once a week from the Zaralek Caverns weekly. But now they have a very high chance to drop from many of the weekly gated or repeatable instance content type of activities. So the Mythic+ end of dungeon chests, the wins in PvP, the world bosses, the weekly world events, the raid bosses, the Niffen in Zaralek Caverns, the public event, Researchers Under Fire in Zaralek Caverns, all of these things still have a chance to give you a Splintered Spark of Shadowflame to turn into the item required for crafting. So even without doing Mythic+, you can get yourself your hands on 2 or 3 of these Sparks of Shadowflame which will be able to give you 2 or 3 424 item level pieces of gear.

410+ Ilvl in a Few Days in 10.2/10.1.7

So you should be able to quite quickly to get yourself into the 410 item level range of gear, even just in the first two or three days of having maxed your character at level 70. And this is without as mentioned including things like spamming Mythic+ or getting boosted through a raid, this is just from open world soluble content. Then if you are one fo the players that wants to do instance content like gradient mythic+, you can then choose to go into that content once you have boosted up your item level a little bit. If you don't, then you can continue to do this type of open world, you can do more world quests and more events to keep earning, whelpling and drake crests, so you can upgrade all of the gear you have looted and slowly make your way towards 430 item level gear that you can get by doing almost exclusively open world content. The only bit of story that is recommended for this but it will take you a bit is to go through the entire entry line quest of the Zaralek Caverns which will end with the quest asking you to defeat Sarkareth. Doing so will give you a wyrm aspect crest which means a 437 item level piece of gear.

how to gear up to 420+ ilvl in 10.2 Dragonflight Season 3

Of course there are a few other ways if you have money, for example, you can buy the couple of bind on a kip items on the auction house if you want faster growth in your item level. If you have even more money, you can just straight up buy boosts in Mythic+ or the raid.
