D2R 2.5 Best Hybrid Amazon Build | Poison Javazon Amazon Build without Sunder in Diablo 2 Resurrected
11/2/2022 11:16:01 AM

We're going to look at a build that is fairly commonly requested, especially in guides where we reminisce about older builds, and that is the poison and Ice Amazon, the main reason for choosing this one is that we wanted a guide that met three conditions, first and foremost, we wanted to cover a poison javazon, second, it needed to be something that not only worked well in the end game, but was also reasonable to go through with solo self found, and three it just had to be fun to play, so while there are a few options that fit this kind of criteria, the cold poison setup is generally the most requested of them probably because both halves require slightly over 40 points to invest in each, leaving you with the flexibility to invest in passives properly.

Why This Hybrid Amazon Build Is Good

The reason why this is really nice to use for solo self found is that it's pretty easy to build with budget gear and doesn't require a Sunder charm to function well enough to handle the challenges the game throws at it especially later on, and generally the slowest part is going to be the boss kills for it, and even then in a pinch you can just poison them and dodge if you're being lazy or particularly under weird, compared to most other bills that need to be constantly attacking to get that damage out, this is because the poison javazon is really one of only three characters that can use poison effectively, and only her and the Necromancer have it in a form that lasts more than a fraction of a second, this combined with the fact that we can hard freeze most trash mobs to let them poison work while we focus on the uniques, and bosses and you have a fairly safe and fun build, though a bit of a disclaimer here, you will generally choose one element to be dominant, and the other's support, so your gear will need to shift to understand that with cold favoring plus skills, cold penetration piercing effects attack speed, and stack sources of mana recovery, while if you're favoring poison, you'll be favoring plus poison damage minus poison resist plus skills and mana per kill instead since, you won't be spamming attacks as much, as far as the skill choices, we generally prefer going poison first and normal than hitting the cold skills in Nightmare and into hell, this is because poison skills in normal and even a good chunk of nightmare hit at or above their weight, but start to slow down and hell without good gear, while cold is slow and normal speeds up a little a nightmare but can start to shine in hell even with budget gear, just due to how it works.

Skill Points

Javelin and Spear: Maxed out Poison Javelin and Plague Javelin.

Passive and Magic: One point to Inner Sight, Slow Missiles, Decoy, and others, except Valkyrie (Max out).

Bow and Crossbow: Maxed out Freezing Arrow.

The goal with skill points in normal should go into something like getting the prerequisites down, and then dumping into poison Javelin and plague Javelin, often preferring plague specifically because the mana cost is not terrible, and with the changes in 2.4 you don't really need to juggle the duration issues like we had to in previous versions, meaning maximize damage first and then worry about the synergies, as far as any spare points along the way the entire passive tree should be getting one point as you go, and we can invest in more later, but one point in each one available, especially Valkyrie can be handy and you'll want to get your Pierce ready by Nightmare so you can get as much value out of your cold skills as possible that said as we even just start to move into Nightmare, we should be finishing off all of the poison and then start investing in freezing arrow,  this does involve having a bow on one weapon slot with freezing arrow on left click and having the other weapon slot be a javelin and a shield with plague Javelin on left click, and you will need to be carrying mana potions for most of this, unless you're using an Insight mercenary which honestly is fine especially if you get an act 1 mercenary for it to have its share of ranged love, now the thing to remember with freezing arrow is that only one of the Synergy boosts will boost the damage, so you will be maxing out freezing arrow and cold Arrow, but we generally do not bother with ice Arrow since it only builds the freeze duration and where we're going things don't survive long enough for that to really matter, now with one point in every passive and maxing out both of those skills that's a grand total of 92 skill points or basically you'll be done around the time you're about halfway through hell unless you're rushing through it, and if you plan on going all the way to 99 you'll have plenty of spare points to play with, personally we like putting it into Valkyrie, but if you plan to do Ubers with this character a shift into an auto hit skill like impale or guided Arrow can be handy, even if it's quite a bit less efficient than the proper Uber Hunters.

Gear of Hybrid Amazon Build

Budget gear in normal is just whatever javelins you can find, even the starter ones will work though if you can get some Auto replenish ones, those will be your best friend, and at this stage while you can get a bow we generally wouldn't bother, you won't need it until Nightmare and of course things like stealth and lore are nice, but that's true of any build, in Nightmare the budget options open up a bit.

Bow:

Great Bow (Runeword: Insight)

Matriarchal Bow (Melody)

Especially now that you're likely integrating freezing arrows into the formula, we think the best d2r runes are Insight and Melody, Insight since it provides you with the mana regeneration to help keep up with the freezing arrows or to top off your mana between bursts of poison from your javelins on Swap, and Melody sends it can be stacked on an Amazon bow for really solid bow plus skills, and the other mods on it are not half bad either.

Full Plate Armor: Gothic Plate (Peace)

Another somewhat handy addition at this point is the Amazon rune word, peace, thanks to plus skills a decent level Valkyrie summon effect and being just overall super cheap to make, even in Nightmare, we sadly won't have any particularly easy things to make to favor one build or the other at least on the budget front, but the plus skills and mana coverage from the budget Rune words can smooth things out a lot, in hell as far as budget gear goes.

Gloves: Spirit Grasp

You'll be using much the same that you could keep an eye out for a good Javelin or bow glove to just boost your skills higher and of course things like circlets and amulets with plus skills as well.

Gauntlets: Bone Touch

If you're favoring Beau, you will want that attack speed otherwise you can lean into looking for resistant mana recovery in slots.

Bone Shields: Troll Nest (Head Hunter's Glory)

The reason we like Head Hunter's Glory is its resistant sockets as well as a poison faceted.

Crown : Corona (Crown of Ages)

Crown of Ages that is nice for resist plus kills and sockets, even if it is a bit strength hungry.

Amulet: Highlord's Wrath

Highlord's Wrath

Highlord's WrathRequired Level: 65
+1 To All Skills
+20% Increased Attack Speed
+ (0.375 Per Character Level) 0-37 % Deadly Strike (Based On Character Level)
Lightning Resist +35%
Adds 1-30 Lightning Damage
Attacker Takes Lightning Damage Of 15
(Only Spawns In Patch 1.09 or later)

We choose Highlord's Wrath for again plus skills resist and attack speed, we could again have gotten more plus skills here, but we need that attack speed to really keep the ice side feeling, well fluid in the end game.

Ring:

Raven Frost

Doom Loop

The rest of our gear thankfully is a bit more predictable with Raven Frost, keep us from getting chilled, so we can keep our attack speed up, but also throw a pinch of extra cold damage into our Splash, and on the other finger we have a leech ring to help us keep our mana under control, it won't keep us topped off, but it will give us enough to help kind of get out of a pinch, especially with silk weave boots for a bit of mana per kill, since while this is not a super mana-hungry build except for on the ice side, it does need a bid, even so far as you might want to actually dip a little bit into energy or get some plus mana charms.

Boots: Silkweave

Belt: Razortail

Razortail

RazortailDefense: 96-107 (varies)(Base Defense: 31-36)
Required Level: 32
Required Strength: 20
Durability: 14
16 Boxes
+120-150% Enhanced Defense (varies)
+15 Defense
+10 To Maximum Damage
Piercing Attack (33)
+15 To Dexterity
Attacker Takes Damage of (1 Per Character Level) 1-99 (Based On Character Level)
(Only Spawns In Patch 1.09 or later)

Javelin: Titan's Revenge

Since it has plus skills, stat boosts, Auto, replenish, etc, that is super handy for pretty much any Javelin build in a solid safe choice.

Play Strategy for Hybrid Amazon Build

The play strategy for this build is thankfully pretty straightforward, it's not poison immune throw a javelin at it, and it will die fairly quick clear to the poison if it is poison immune then you shatter it with gold, you want to lean on poison primarily since it uses our mana much more efficiently, but both are pretty dang deadly with this setup, that said there are a few enemies in act 5 hell that are dual immune to cold and poison, thankfully they're fairly fragile skeletons your mercenary can handle, whether that's an act 5 plague Barbarian that can break the poison immunity or an Act 2 mercenary, just punching things in the face or even an act one fire mercenary covering your Gap, any of the above would work just fine, though you could also look at Sunder charms which we opted to avoid for my runs on this one, but if you have the chase gear, we would select just one of them based on which attack you prefer more, since with poison facets you can squeeze out enough negative resist to be semi-effective, same situation with cold and the ice bow and some facet gear and plus skills to push it up, but overall even without Sunder, it's a fairly smooth build to play regardless since it's very much a left click to win build, pressing W to shift between the two highly functional build choices, and all you need for your right click is valkyrie free and maybe in her side if you want to guarantee your pierces more, so do you prefer focusing entirely on one damage type or do you prefer being able to use two distinct fully synergized skills to smack down anything that stands in your way.
