Duping is back in Diablo 2 Resurrected with the 2.5 patches! In this guide, let's break down all information about the Duplicate Glitch, and tell you how to dupe items and how to prevent duped items from getting deleted in Diablo 2 Resurrected 2.5!

What is Duping (Duplicate Items) in Diablo 2 Resurrected?

Simply, dupe means Duplicating an identical new item from an item in your inventory.

But how does the dupe glitch exist in Diablo 2? Back in Diablo 1, it didn't really have much of a purpose, when you duped an item, and then eventually they came out with the ability to detect the fact that you were duplicating items and they would delete the duplicates. In Diablo 2 very similarly, you could duplicate items all you wanted and they really didn't have any way to stop it, so they started adding something called a unique item identifier. The unique item identifier would check and see whether the item already existed, let's say for instance your unique item identifier was the number 16, and the system was to go and find there are two items, then check if the unique item identifiers are both number 16, if so the system deletes both items. This means that unfortunately you no longer have the item and the original person who has the item no longer has the item either in fact nobody gets to keep the item because the unique item identifier system is designed to specifically eradicate the duplicates from the system.

D2R 2.5 New Duping Methods

Although Blizzard has consistently banned dupe glitches in Diablo 2 Resurrected, there are rumors of a new method to duplicate items on Diablo 2 Resurrected. Some duped items would wander around on Season 2 of the Ladder and it is recommended to make your purchases and exchanges with trusted people.

Here are the new duping methods in the D2R 2.5 patch that are spreading in the community now:

How To Dupe Item in Diablo 2 Resurrected 2.5 (Single Player on PS5)?

1. Make a backup of your Savegame
2. Go offline and Start the game
3. Join the game with any character on any difficulty
4. Put the items you want to dupe from your shared stash to your inventory
5. Save and exit
6. In the main menu, select the character with X, cancel with O
7. Repeat until you see the pentagram in the bottom right
8. Then quit via PS Menu

How To Dupe Item in Diablo 2 Resurrected 2.5 (All platforms)?

1. Log in to D2R
2. Put the items you want to dispute in the shared stash
3. Go into any game difficulty with any character
4. Then flash back your game as soon as the save icon appears in the lower right corner
5. Log back into the game, and the automatic duping will be successful.

For example, if you want to dupe the rune, you can first bring the rune you want to copy on your character or inventory, then save it and exit the game. After logging back into the game, put the rune you want to duplicate in the shared stash, enter the gameplay in any difficulty and wait for the auto-save sign, and then flash back off the game, the rune will get duped.

What Items To Dupe in Diablo 2 Resurrected?

You can theoretically duplicate any item in your inventory. Duplicating regular items just doesn't seem worth your time, so people always duplicate items that are worth money, the higher the value the better they're going to be duplicating items like plus two sorceress amulets that have all resistances and 20 faster casts, a perfect Crown of Ages, a plus one to cold skills, charm with 45 life, small charms with seven percent MF and things like that high-value item that they can have a quick turnover for and these items will trade off fast.

There are ways that you can deal with some duplicate items and one of the most commonly duplicated items is actually runes, high runes (such as Jah, and Sur Runes) specifically.

How To Prevent Duped Items (Runes) Being Deleted in Diablo 2 Resurrected?

Due to the authentication system, duplicated items, especially equipment, are easily identified and deleted, but there is a way to ensure that duped runes can be saved and utilized:

The interesting thing about transmuting runes is that it changes the unique item identifier and allows you to obtain another item - creating runewords also creates a unique item identifier. So if you have traded for a high Rune recently, a bur rune, Sur Rune, a Jah Rune, Cham Rune, Zod or any of those runes and you think that it might be duped, there is a way that you can avoid having that rune has taken from you and that is to make the Runeword. So if you are trying to make a specific Rune word don't just let it sit in your inventory for a long period of time, because if it is a duplicate Rune, it can go poof. However, if you use that Rune to create a rune word with it, it will not poof the process of creating a runeword, actually creates a new unique item identifier, this allows the identifier to change and also prevent it from being detected by the system and deleted.

How To Avoid Losses from Dupe Items in Diablo 2 Resurrected?

It's basically like a scan wave, the system just scans for Unique item identifiers and any of the unique item identifiers that are duplicates, it deletes all of them it does not jus delete one but deletes all of them. So to avoid losses from duping items, we do suggest you keep these tips in mind:

1. A lot of the time when it comes to duplicate items, they will be too good to be true trades and that is a red flag right off the bat because it is a person trying to get rid of an item that is you know for sure worth way more than what they're asking and this is generally a bad sign.
2. If you've recently traded for a high rune and you know you are unsure whether that high Rune is a duplicate or not, we would advise you to make the Runeword that you're trying to make, don't let that rune sit around in your inventory for several days until the unique item identifier system finally catches up and deletes the item.
3. Socketing an item with a rune or a gem or a jewel of some kind, and if that item at that Jewel or that Rune ends up being duped, you will log in one day and just simply find the socket empty. So don’t socket any item on the gear or weapon you just trade with strange people, wait for a few days to see if it gets deleted.
4. All you need to know is that protect yourself from Bad trades for a little while until they patch the bug which they will eventually patch the dupe exploit now granted there will always be more dupe exploits, but at least if you can avoid trades from people that you don't know for a little while until they are able to patch it you can protect yourself from the dupes.
