1. 4-4-2 Formation

The first FIFA 22 formation on the list is 442, it’s a pretty balanced formation and it suits offensive playstyle, you’ll get two strikers, the left and right midfielders which offer really nice width. In terms of tactics, you can go with something fairly balanced. In terms of instructions, you are going to want to stay forward on your strikers and get him behind as well. What you're going to have is the two strikers and the two wingers all running in behind, so four forwards all making runs and it can make it very difficult for your opponent to deal with that. For the fullbacks you just want to stay back while attacking, you've already got a left and right mid which go deep enough, so you have your defensive support with them naturally. With this formation, just play fairly wide and try to make cutbacks into the two strikers, you can also obviously do a lot of one-two combos with the striker partnership and then you get the midfielders in support as well. The 442 has been one of the most popular formations for a number of years, apply it as a little bit more of an offensive setup.

2. 4-2-3-1 Formation

The next one of the best FIFA 22 formations is 4231, it is so balanced all over the pitch, you have width, you have the ability to play narrow, and more advantages with this formation. It offers absolutely everything, one small weakness is width, the long striker tends to be a little bit isolated, but other than that, there’s nothing. Player instruction-wise, stay forward on the striker, you want sort of a cr7 type player, just someone who's quick strong can hold the ball up, but also get in behind and dribble, that is the sort of striker you want ideally. You want like a tricky CAM with a five-star weak foot. For the left and right CAM, just pick players that can cut inside on their stronger foot and go for those finesses into the far post. You have your CDMs with this formation, so stay back while attacking, cut passing lanes and they're just going to offer a protective shield in front of the defense. It works very well and you can play between stay back while attacking and balanced on the wing-backs. You can defend well and attack well in it.

3. 4-3-2-1 Formation

4321 is a very good formation for just being direct in attack, you basically have three strikers in this formation, which makes it very unpredictable, you can have a lot of players making runs. When it comes to the player instruction, getting behind on all three of the forwards and similar to the 442 where you just have lots of players running in behind, you're gonna overload your opponent's defense with just multiple players making runs in, it's very midfield heavy as well. With the three central midfielders, it’s recommended to have the central mids to stay back and make that a more defensive player and then with the two wide mids, ideally if they can defend a bit, that's great, but you want two creators either side of the anchor. You do need a little bit of support from your fullbacks in this formation, so you want them unbalanced, you don't have a lot of natural whips here, you have three center mids and then three narrow forwards. Balanced is the best, you can also try the overlap as well, it just to be a little bit more attacking. You are going to have to play pretty narrowly in this formation, you don't have that much width, make sure that your full-backs are decent on the ball because they're going to be going forward a lot. The 4321 is very effective this year.

4. 4-3-3(4)

It definitely is usable, it just does not suit everyone. It is basically a 4231 except for your LAM, RAM, or wingers and CDMs are center mids, that is the only difference, so it plays similar to a 4-2-3-1 formation, but arguably a little bit more attacking. Let’s get into the instructions. Your players are going to be cutting in for those finesse shots with left and right-wingers in the game, they do sit very high very wide, so if you have them cut in that can be very effective getting behind as well. For counterattacks and then getting behind on the striker probably worth putting him on stay forward as well. You could use this if your 4231 is just struggling a little bit and you want to push your center mids up, push your lam and ram up a little bit, this is going to work very well. Stay back while attacking the full-backs again, you do have a little bit of a cover on the wings with the actual wingers, but you may find that you're getting a little bit overloaded in wide areas because there's going to be a big gap between the full-back and the winger.

5. 4-3-1-2 Formation

The last formation that works well in FIFA 22 is 4312, four at the back is definitely the way to go. The only issue with it is it’s just so narrow. You're going to want to get in behind on your strikers, stay forward on the cam for the middle man as always, stay back while attacking. You want at least one of your midfielders in there, that's just going gonna be remained in position, otherwise, if all three go up, you're gonna find yourself in a little bit of trouble. In this formation you're gonna need that natural whip from the full-backs, so don't put them on stay back while attacking or you're just going to find that you have absolutely no wide support, that is going to be far from ideal for the outside center mids, basically, just go for box-to-box and creative style.
