WoW Season of Discovery Best Melee & Ranged DPS - SOD Phase 1 Raid DPS Tier List

In Season of Discovery, some classes are favored compared to others when just making a raid overall. So hopefully this WoW Classic SoD DPS tier list might help you evaluate which class to play and which classes to avoid or which specs to play and which specs to avoid. The WoW Classic SoD DPS ranking largely reflect gear dependence, damage potential, and utility/group buffs provided by each class/spec. S tier dominates damage with low requirements. A-B depends more on gear quality. C provides niche value beyond damage. D has significant damage shortcomings regardless of gear.

S Tier

  • Marksmanship Hunter

Placed at the top of S tier on the Season of Mastery phase 1 DPS tier list due to extremely strong dmg potential with minimal gear reliance through skills like Trueshot Aura. Mentioned being able to pump dmg without any gear. Very strong spec.

  • Fury Warrior

Highest damage potential once geared but requires a lot more Crit/hit gear than other S tiers. Epis sword mentioned boosted damage further. Brings damage and Battle Shout. Placed in S tier on the SoD Raid DPS ranking due to very high damage ceiling.

  • Retribution Paladin

Placed in S tier because it brings amazing utility with blessings, Freedom, immunity removal while pumping high sustained damage without much gear requirements through Crusader Strike and Seal of Command procs. Can perform well in both ranged and melee roles.

  • Beast Mastery Hunter

Deal massive damage with pet attacks using minimal personal gear. Scorpion pet stands out. Pet can tank fights too. Freedom to play ranged or melee. Top tier damage with low gear needs.

  • Feral Druid

Like Hunter, can perform well with little gear. Did 85+ DPS in dungeon gear alone. Windfury totem also desired. Melee or ranged flexibility. Placed in S tier for strong damage ceiling and utility.

A Tier

  • Assassination Rogue

High skill cap potential but gear/weapon reliant. Mentioned class weapon boost. Might struggle on poison immune fights needing talent points to juggle Combat. Placed in A tier due to damage ceiling when geared.

  • Destruction Warlock

Very strong burst AoE. Placed in A tier to reflect strong potential pending sufficient Crit/fire gear to fuel damage over time.

B Tier

  • Combat Rogue

Affliction Warlock

  • Fire Mage

Very strong burst AoE. Placed in A tier to reflect strong potential pending sufficient Crit/fire gear to fuel damage over time.

C Tier

  • Arcane Mage

  • Frost Mage

Can perform adequately but lacks clear benefits over Fire. Utility focused role rather than primary damage.

  • Enhancement Shaman

Brings Windfury and totems but lacks strong personal damage abilities. Better used situationally rather than core damage.

D Tier

  • Shadow Priest

  • Balance Druid

Problems with scaling and damage. Better utilized through healing/support rather than core DPS.

  • Elemental Shaman

Feedback suggested undertuned damage. Lacks utility of higher tiers. Better suited to niche supportive aspects than damage role.
